The government has now approved a new service that brings all of the channels that were previously only available in the metro areas to regional and rural Australia. To express your interest please contact us.
The Australian Government is funding a new satellite service to provide digital television to viewers in Australia who are unable to receive digital TV through their normal antenna because of issues relating to local interference, terrain or distance from the transmitter in their area.
Am I eligible to get the new service?
The service is being launched initially for viewers in the Mildura/Sunraysia switchover area who cannot get adequate digital reception from their local transmitter i.e. terrestrially.
Longer termall viewers who are unable to receive adequate “terrestrial” services, or who live in the Remote Central and Eastern Australia licence area will be eligible to access the commercial channels on the new satellite service (ABC and SBS will be automatically available).
How do I get access to the new satellite service?
To access the service in Mildura/Sunraysia, you will need to purchase a satellite set-top box, and a satellite dish of at least 65cm. Access to this new satellite service will be managed by the use of ‘smart cards’ provided when you purchase your new satellite set top box.
If your equipment is correctly installed, you should be able to receive ABC TV without registering your smartcard, however to access the full range of services, you will need to register your details which must include a site address within the approved area in the Sunraysia Mildura region.
What channels are available?
Southern Cross Media and Imparja are broadcasting the full range of digital commercial television channels in standard definition (with programming from the 7, 9 and 10 networks) and the high definition channels OneHD, 7HD and 9HD.
This new satellite service also provides all the standard and high definition channels from ABC and SBS.
The local news content from regional broadcasters will also be available on a dedicated local news channel exclusive to the new digital satellite service.
When is the new service going to be available?
Eligible viewers in Mildura/Sunraysia are now able to watch the programs.
Existing Remote Area viewers who currently watch Southern Cross and Imparja via satellite will be able to convert to this new service later in the year following the Mildura/Sunraysia switchover. We will have more information on this site soon.
How much will equipment cost?
The retail cost is likely to be less than $270 (including GST) for a high definition satellite set-top box with the smart card and less than $100 for a satellite dish.Your satellite antenna installer’s hourly rate will vary depending on your location, building type and other individual factors
Where can I obtain further information about the new satellite and digital switchover?
The Government has established a national information telephone line and a website to provide advice and assistance to viewers in the transition to digital television. The Digital Ready Information Line operates seven days a week from 8.00 am to 10.00 pm (AEST) on free-call number 1800 20 10 13. The Digital Ready website may be accessed at http://www.digitalready.gov.au/
CLEARSAT 3230 HIGH DEFINITION SATELLITE DECODER - PVR READY
Now in stock, the ClearSat 3230 high definiton satellite decoder is the logical choice if you're after a fully featured HD decoder with a low price tag. Firstly, video clarity is optimised through the HDMI video output port on the rear. On our tests, when connecting the ClearSat 3230 to a HD LCD monitor via HDMI, high definition broadcasts looked superb as the ClearSat is capable of up to 1080i resolution. Audio output is also taken care of with the inclusion of digital coaxial and stereo RCA sockets. The ClearSat 3230 is fitted with an AAC dolby digital chipset too.
If you wish to record programs, a USB 2.0 socket can be accessed on the front of the unit and will accept a USB stick or external drive. We found it more reliable to use a USB drive or self powered drive rather than a drive that is powered by the 5V output from the USB port. Recording operations are flawless and timers can be set to record automatically. You can PAUSE, FF, REWIND any recorded program.
The ClearSat 3230 features a common interface (CI) slot behind the front panel so a conditional access module (CAM) can be utilised if you plan to watch pay TV or encrypted programs with the use of a valid subscription smartcard. We believe it's much more reliable to run a smartcard in a CAM rather than a generic card reader as most decoders on the market these days use emulation software combined with hardware built into the decoder to decrypt valid subscriber smartcards and often, a pay TV provider may perform over the air smartcard upgrades. If the decoder cannot interpret these updates, the smartcard will become scrambled and viewer access will be blocked. An officially licenced module on the other hand such as an Irdeto module will update the card as these updates come through. The ClearSat 3230 is compatible with ALL SD and HD free to air broadcasts as well as most pay TV provider smartcards EXCEPT Foxtel, Austar or the new Australian free to air service known as VAST. We have tested the ClearSat 3230 with SelecTV cards, Optus Aurora cards, SECA cards and VIACESS cards. The unit will run most IRDETO pay TV smartcards.
The ClearSat 3230 software is very reliable. We know this as we have tested this unit now for over 5 months while waiting for stock to arrive. Not once has the unit locked up and required a restart. The unit features a variety of scanning options ~ Multiple satellite scan, single satellite search and automatic satellite search which is actually blind scan. Blind scan feature will scan all frequencies and channels from any satellite that the dish is pointed to. This is a very useful feature. Channels can be grouped into favourites such as MOVIES, KIDS, SPORTS, NEWS etc.
The ClearSat 3230 can decode MPEG2 and MPEG4 broadcasts. There is no doubt in our minds here at SatPlus that ALL satellite TV broadcasters currently compressing digital content using MPEG2 will shift to MPEG4 in the very near future to save on bandwidth and to broadcast in higher definition as this has almost become standard in the DVB-T (digital terrestrial) industry. Many satellite TV broadcasters around the World including Australia already use MPEG4. Another good reason to make the Clearsat 3230 your next choice.
CLEARSAT 3230 HD SATELLITE DECODER WITH IRDETO 2.26D MODULE
This offer includes a ClearSat 3230 high definition satellite decoder (description above) and an official Irdeto 2.26D module. With the included module, you'll be able to use the ClearSat 3230 with most Irdeto pay TV smartcards (excluding Austar, Foxtel or VAST). This deal saves you $30.00. Plenty in stock so place your order now. Great quality and fully tested.
STRONG SRT4900 HIGH DEFINITION SATELLITE DECODER PVR READY
Product added 30th March 09
After a long time in development, Strong have released the highly anticipated SRT4900 high definition satellite decoder. Not only is this unit capable of displaying incredible picture quality up to 1080i, it is also able to record high definition to an external USB drive or memory stick. This fully loaded decoder boasts a vast array of external connections to suit everyone. These include HDMI, component, composite, S-Video and twin SCART connections. Of course, the obvious choice would be HDMI so you can retain the high quality digital picture direct to your LCD, plasma or CRT screen. Audio can be delivered via standard stereo RCA or via S/PDIF digital audio output.
The SRT4900's recording options include USB on the front and rear. By opening the smartcard flap on the front, a quick access USB slot can be utilised by inserting a memory stick while the rear USB slot could have a USB drive attached as well. Having both front and rear USB options we think, is a great idea as it can be difficult to locate the ports on the rear when the unit is mounted in a cabinet or entertainment unit. Furthermore, the SRT4900 also features an eSATA port on the rear. eSata hard drives replace the older style IDE drives allowing for faster data rates and the ability to remove the drive while the machine is operational (hot swapping).
The 4900 is fitted with a high speed LAN port for access to stored files on the attached USB drive so the files can be transferred to your PC and later burned to DVD if required.
MP3 files can be played directly from USB via the 4900's built in MP3 player software too so the unit becomes a central entertainment system for playback of movies and sound files.
On the front we have a very nice VFD display showing channel name, channel number and video format. The 4900 is able to playback 576p, 576i, 720p and 1080i. On the right we have the hinge down panel which houses a single smartcard slot as well as dual CI slots for inserting a CAM/s. Front USB slot is located here.
On our test, the unit recorded high definition pictures at a rate of approximately 70MB per minute but this would depend on the picture resolution format too. Live HD pictures looked fantastic via HDMI on Optus D1. With new programs being broadcast in HD soon via satellite, MPEG 2 and MPEG 4 compatibility, USB recording PVR function, HDMI and the Strong name behind it, the SRT4900 is arguably the best HD satellite receiver on the market today.

SATPLUS DVBS100 12 VOLT DC / 240 VOLT AC IRDETO EMBEDDED RECEIVER
The SatPlus S100 decoder is now available and due to its slim case design and 12 volt DC operation, would be the logical choice for use in a caravan or camper trailer as part of a portable satellite system. The unit is IRDETO licensed meaning 100% compatibility with Aurora and SelecTV smartcards. So, if future changes are implemented by Optus or SelecTV, the S100 will continue to run the cards. There is a good array of video output connections on the rear of the unit including two standard RCA (yellow, white and red) video outputs. This is handy for connection to a TV and VCR or DVD recorder. There is also a component video socket (red, green, blue) for a higher quality video output. This is ideal for connection to LCD's and plasma TV's. Digital audio and RF modulator is standard.
The built in electronic program guide shows NOW and NEXT programs as well as extended info. Favourites group, edit and rename of channels, pin code blocking, 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratio, signal strength and quality bars and more.

Star 2880 free to air satellite decoder. When using a standard satellite decoder, the user is required to know the parameters to scan in the channels on a particular satellite such as frequency, symbol rate, polarity and code rate or FEC. Although these details are readily available on websites like www.lyngsat.com it can confusing for the uninitiated and also time consuming to enter in lots of parameters. A blind scan unit such as the Star 2880 does all this automatically. It will scan the entire frequency range of the satellite and download all of the available programs. This makes it ideal for 'feed hunting'. Feeds are programs that are generally unencrypted (free to air) and are broadcast for a short term with the sole purpose of feeding an earth station with video for live or recorded programs. The Star 2880 is a low priced decoder featuring digital audio output, PAL-NTSC auto conversion, 500 channel memory space, closed captions, signal level and quality indicator and more. Ideal for any free to air, fixed satellite dish installation. Not recommended for motorised systems. BEST BULK BUY PRICING ON THESE UNITS - CALL US NOW.
